Pike County Illinois lies between
the Illinois and Mississippi rivers in prime whitetail deer
habitat. Sometimes called the Golden Triangle, Pike
County always leads the state in number of deer harvested. An
unlimited supply of food and good deer management programs lead
to an abundance of monster bucks!!!
One of the first counties in Illinois, Pike County was formed
January 31, 1821. The county originally encompassed all of the
state north of the Illinois River. By 1825 area transferred
to other counties resulted in the current boundaries of Pike
County.
Zebulon Montgomery Pike [1779-1813] was a General in the War
of 1812 and an early explorer of the Louisiana Purchase. (Pike's
Peak in Colorado is also named in his honor).
